Vehicle Weight Distribution
Vehicle Weight Distribution Calculator
Purpose:
In this calculator we can determine how the vehicle weight is distributed around the vehicle. Giving us a quick visualisation of how the vehicle is balanced.
Using this Calculator:
-
Enter the weight on each corner of the vehicle.
Goal:
We should aim to distribute approximately 5% more of the vehicle weight over the driven axle as a general rule of thumb.
For circuits we want to aim for a 50% cross weight, for ovals this number can vary depending on vehicle performance needs.
Centre of Gravity Position Calculator
Purpose:
Here we can work out how high our centre of mass is from the ground and also its position in the car as a distance from each axle.
Using this Calculator: Not currently available on our mobile site.
-
Raise the height of the front of the vehicle on the scales. This can be done by placing a block of a known height under each of the front scales.
-
Measure the new weight on each wheel of the vehicle.
-
Enter the other dimensions of the vehicle as stated in the calculator.
Goal:
Our aim should be to set the centre of gravity height as low as possible.
Now we know our weight distribution, we can turn our attention to our suspension system and springs.
